Coastal Data Products, Inc., a Florida Corporation, was established in 1973. The Company, located in Miami, Florida, initially developed and marketed a stand-alone electronic data collection device called the $mart Clock.

Throughout the 70’s, the Company’s thrust had been to market its $mart Clock to the industries that had an appreciation for easy capture of data and could capitalize on processing time and attendance, and other management reports which normally would have taken an inordinate amount of time to produce. Hospitals are a major market, as well as manufacturers.

The real breakthrough came, however, through the Personal Computer’s acceptance in the early 80’s and by the Company’s pioneering in developing application software for time and attendance which never before existed. This changed the Company’s marketing from component sales to "turn key systems" solution approach, incorporating the $mart Clock, with Time and Attendance Software and a Personal Computer. The benefits to the user are immediate in cost savings, production and management information.

It is well known that our innovative company has created the key to unlocking a $2.4 billion market. Early on, we recognized that payroll processing was mainly dependent on numerous costly manual operations, even with highly refined computer payroll programs. Approximately one-half of all payroll preparation effort was involved with timekeeping and manual key-driven input preparation for the computer.

CDP Was the First to:

  • Launch a long-range program of continuous development to automate the costly time and attendance payroll function, starting in 1973.
  • Develop and market a stand-alone micro-processor based data collection terminal ($MART CLOCK) for timekeeping and other applications.
  • Develop Time and Attendance software using the Personal Computer and the $MART CLOCK as a turn-key system.
  • Develop customized Personal Computer and $MART CLOCK software vertical market systems for hospitals, retail chain stores, manufacturers and payroll processing service bureaus.
  • Be approved and recommended by three of the major Payroll Processing Service Bureaus (at the time) as a vendor of Automated Time and Attendance Systems to their client bases. These three are AUTOMATIC DATA PROCESSING, INC., CERIDIAN and BANK OF AMERICA, with over 200,000 clients.

CDP transitioned from a component supplier of $MART CLOCKS to the industry leader in the production and marketing of Personal Computer based Automated Time and Attendance systems. This was the culmination of a 12 year evolutionary process which literally "turned the key" to this virtually untapped market.

This was made possible mainly by the creativeness and perseverance of our management and board, comprising over 135 years of solid data processing experience. Our management is strong, our products have a high level of integrity and acceptance, with speedy return on investment.

The $mart Clock is proudly made in the U.S.A.
